Eliminating Trachoma: Accelerating Towards 2020

22 July 2016 | London -- The World Health Organization (WHO) Alliance for the Global Elimination of Trachoma has today released its plan of action, Eliminating Trachoma: Accelerating Towards 2020. The document outlines what needs to be done to scale up programmes to ensure that people at risk of blindness from trachoma are not left behind.

Towards 2020 is an important step in the accelerated response to eliminating trachoma by 2020, driving forward the successes of the past few years and asking us to redouble our efforts. It is particularly aimed at funders, policy makers and implementing partners, acknowledging the challenges in achieving global elimination targets – increasing coverage, refining intervention strategies, engaging multiple sectors, and urgently attracting additional funding needed for elimination efforts in 42 countries – whilst delivering a call to action to meet those challenges head-on.
