Overview and Key Presentations

The 2006 meeting reviewed and discussed key issues in vaccine research and development. Particular consideration and reviews was given to the the following issues:

  • Prospects for pandemic influenza vaccines
  • Innovation,intellectual property rights and new vaccine production in the South East Asian region
  • Rabies, an unrecognized health priority in Asia
  • Update on vaccines against Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization priority diseases new vaccines
  • Vaccines against cervical cancer
  • Development of vaccines against HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis

Three parallel satellite symposia were held prior to the conference on:

  • Optimization of immunization schedules for conjugate vaccines

and on

  • Standard of care and treatment in vaccine clinical trials

and on

  • Japanese encephalitis and dengue vaccine research and development
