Coordinating and Resource Facility on Regulatory Issues
The AAVP Coordinating and Resource Facility on Regulatory Issues assesses the needs and training of regulatory bodies in countries where HIV vaccine trials are planned or being conducted. It acts as a member of the Global Training Network for regulators. This Centre involves communities within their programmes, often through the generation of materials regarding regulatory reviews, to advise the community advisory boards at trial sites about important regulatory aspects. It works with (i) various African and non-African regulatory bodies and international HIV vaccine developers to ensure that training courses and policy development programmes are cutting edge and appropriate for developing country regulators; and (ii) WHO and regional regulatory bodies to advise on potential harmonization of regulatory processes. It strives to contribute to innovative solutions for the current structural limitations of regulatory bodies.
