WHO Ad hoc expert consultation on rotavirus vaccination schedules
13-14 February 2012, Geneva, Switzerland
The aim of this consultation was to review the evidence on the current WHO-recommended immunization schedules for rotavirus vaccines and on alternative rotavirus vaccination schedules in preparation for the special SAGE session that was held on 16-17 February 2012.
The available evidence was used to address the following questions: What are the optimal schedules for RV vaccines for children living in different income strata/mortality settings?
- What evidence is available on the current RV vaccine schedule versus alternative schedules OR What schedules does the evidence favours (i.e. effectiveness, co-administration, breast feeding, operational issues, costs) for children living in different income strata/mortality settings?
- What evidence is available on the benefits and risks of the current (and alternative) RV immunization schedules for children living in different income strata/mortality settings?
- What key evidence gaps relevant to rotavirus immunization schedules require further research?
