Description of the website

This is the official website of the Spanish Paediatrics Association’s Advisory Committee on Vaccines (CAV-AEP). The Advisory Committee is composed of Paediatricians expert in the field of immunization and vaccines.

The AEP was created in 1949 and is the largest Paediatric Society in Spain, with more than nine thousand members (paediatricians and paediatric surgeons). AEP comprises 14 regional and 23 sub-specialty Paediatric societies.

The website is intended to be an immunization resource for both professionals (paediatricians, general practitioners and nurses) and families/public.

It contains vaccine news, statements, references to scientific papers, fact sheets, links to national and regional schedules, an online handbook, and separate Q&A sections for professionals and families. The Advisory Committee publishes a comprehensive yearly update of the paediatric immunization schedule recommended by AEP for Spanish children and adolescents.

Website’s sponsorship policy

CAV-AEP is fully funded by the Spanish Association of Paediatrics (AEP), whose source of income is membership quotas and collaboration agreements with food and pharmaceutical industry. AEP has a sponsorship public transparency policy.

There is no direct economic relationship between the website editors and AEP sponsors. Advice and recommendations published in the website rest on the independent criteria of the experts of the Advisory Committee and is based on the scientific evidence available. Professional relationship with Pharma industry is established under the terms and conditions contained in the document “Ethical Framework of the AEP”, available on the website. This site does not contain external advertising. Information on sponsors policy is available on the website.

Website’s content or editorial policy

Website content is arranged by target groups: health-care professionals, general public and media. There are specific sections on immunization schedules, vaccine-preventable diseases and vaccine safety. Both public and professionals visitors, can interact with the CAV-AEP through the Q&A section “Ask CAV-AEP”. There is also a vaccine news section.

This website includes an online-updated Handbook of Immunizations in Spanish: Manual de Vacunas en línea de la AEP. Website content is developed by the members of the CAV-AEP. Website published statements and the recommended vaccine schedule stand for the official AEP policy on immunization.

La información contenida en esta web se estructura por el grupo a quien va destinada: área de profesionales y área de familias y público en general. Asimismo, contiene la producción publicada del CAV-AEP incluida en una sección específica.

Hay secciones sobre noticias, calendarios de vacunación, enfermedades prevenibles por medio de vacunas y seguridad vacunal, además de información técnica de las vacunas y un apartado de vacunaciones en países pobres.

El sitio dispone de un servicio interactivo de preguntas y respuestas, que no precisa registro, sobre vacunaciones infantiles.

Aloja el “Manual de Vacunas en línea de la AEP”, de acceso abierto completo y en actualización constante, con posibilidad de interacción con los visitantes.

La web se actualiza de forma sistemática sobre una base mensual y el área de noticias siempre que se estima oportuno. La web del CAV-AEP no contiene publicidad de ningún tipo. La AEP, fundada en 1949, es la mayor organización pediátrica en España, con más de nueve mil pediatras y cirujanos pediátricos afiliados.
