The objective of the web site of the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control (SMI) is to provide comprehensive information on infectious disease control that is both factual and easy to understand. The site includes extensive material on infectious diseases, immunization and vaccines. The national vaccination programme and schedule are presented, with texts on how vaccines work and vaccine safety and efficiency. Statistics for vaccine coverage and vaccine-preventable diseases are provided. There is also a section with frequently asked questions. Links to national and international sites of interest are listed on each page as well as in a separate list.
The mission of the SMI is to monitor and control infectious diseases. The web site is SMI’s most important information channel. It is updated on a monthly basis.
