EMERGENCIES
Poliomyelitis
Extremely high immunization coverage for
polio vaccine is currently being achieved as part of the Polio Eradication
Initiative making polio unlikely to be a major threat in camps or other
congregations of people following a disaster. Administration of OPV should
not be considered a priority in emergencies unless it is known that wild
virus is circulating in the community, but it should be part of the
routine schedule as soon as routine services have been established.
