EMERGENCIES
Specific
vaccine-preventable diseases
V&B is periodically called upon to
respond to an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease included in the
immunization schedule. The response to the outbreak will vary greatly
depending on the epidemiological situation and the disease control goals
in place. As part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, V&B
takes a major role in responding to polio outbreaks, along with EHA.
Details of the response to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases
occurring outside man-made or natural disaster situations are not provided
here.
EPI may also be called upon to assist
with immunization during a man-made or natural disaster which becomes the
potential setting for an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease.
