GAVI
Clinical Trials Catalogue, 1990-2000
- Your input is important!
A
first draft of the “GAVI Clinical Trials Catalogue, 1990-2000” is
ready for review. Of the
three sources of information used to create this catalogue (i.e., Medline,
WHO V&B Vaccine Trial Registry, and Experts) it is now up to Experts
such as yourself to contribute to keep the
catalogue as much updated as possible. This is why we are requesting your
cooperation for you to review the disease/s target of the tested vaccine(s)
you are acquainted with and correct, add, or delete entries and vaccine
clinical trials from the catalogue. |

Background
|
|
One
of the objectives of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI)
is to accelerate research and development efforts for new vaccines and
related products against diseases of special need for the Third World.
A
Pre-Task Force on Research and Development of GAVI jointly convened with
the WHO Intercluster Vaccine Research Initiative a meeting (4-5 November
1999, Geneva) to begin to explore ways to accelerate research on vaccines
against GAVI priority diseases, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB, as well as
vaccines against diseases that lack substantial markets in industrialized
countries but are urgently needed in developing countries (" developing market
vaccines"). Among the specific recommendations that
emerged from that meeting were:
|
|
·
|
A
GAVI Task Force on Research and Development should oversee the preparation
of a catalogue of clinical trial facilities in industrialized and
developing countries with experience or potential for evaluating vaccines
against GAVI priority disease and “developing
market vaccines” in phase I-IV clinical trials;
|
|
·
|
This
catalogue should be updated annually.
