Ms Altieri, an Italian citizen, is currently attending a Master in Business Administration on International Health Management at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel, Switzerland. Prior to that she obtained a Master degree in Direction of Communications from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in Spain in 2004, and a degree in Foreign Languages, Spanish and English, from the University of Trieste in Italy in 2001. Prior to joining WHO, Ms Altieri served as a strategic communications consultant for UNAIDS and ILO; Communications Officer for the World Bank's Development Marketplace; Campaigns Regional Coordinator for the Inter-American Development Bank; and Junior External Relations Officer for the UNDP Country Office in Honduras.

In 2011, Ms Altieri joined WHO as Communications Officer for the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Road Safety Programme 2010-2014. As part of the programme, she developed global training materials and provided technical support to countries to establish training programmes for journalists and implement social marketing campaigns. Currently, as part of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety 2015-2019, she is further developing the media training programme and related materials for use in the countries which are part of the initiative. In addition she supports outreach to the press around other high-profile road safety events hosted by the WHO Department for the Management of Noncommunicable Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention (NVI).
