Dr Krug holds a degree of Medical Doctor from the University of Louvain in Brussels, Belgium, his native country, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Harvard University, USA. He has earned several awards and is member of several editorial boards of scientific journals. Prior to joining WHO, Dr Krug held several positions working on violence and injuries prevention in WHO & CDC and served as country Director for Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Dr Krug was appointed Director of the Department of Injuries and Violence Prevention at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland in October 2000. He coordinated the development of WHO’s first World Report on Violence and Health and oversaw preparations for World Health Day 2004. Dr Krug is the Chair of the International Organizing Committee for World Conferences on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion.
