Global launch of the World report on child injury prevention

The global launch of the World report on child injury prevention will take place on 10 December 2008 in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, in the presence of the WHO Director-General, the UNICEF Regional Director, and high-level Vietnamese officials among others. The one-day event will feature statements from dignitaries in support of the report, a technical presentation of the report's findings and recommendations and panel presentations on select national child injury prevention efforts and next steps on the global agenda. Participants will include some of the world's leading injury prevention experts; representatives of governments, international agencies, and nongovernmental organizations; and print and broadcast journalists from the region.

National and local launches of the World report on child injury prevention and other related events and activities

The global launch of the World report on child injury prevention will be an important advocacy event particularly in terms of drawing media attention from around the world to the report and its key messages. However, it is at the national level that the report is likely to have the greatest impact on moving the child injury prevention agenda forward. Many of WHO's key child injury prevention partners are already planning national, local or institutional launches of the report or other types of events and activities to draw attention to the issue of child injury. These events take many forms - a policy briefing with government officials from various agencies, a training with colleagues to enhance their knowledge about child injuries, a press conference with national print and broadcast media, etc. While these events could take place on 10 December 2008, they may also be held in the months following as a means of continuing to draw attention to this issue.

We encourage all who have an interest in child injury prevention to consider planning and hosting such events. Please find a list of ideas for national and local launches of the World report on child injury prevention and other related events and activities on the right at the top.
