Safety 2012 marks another great success in series of world conferences on injury prevention and safety promotion
The WHO-sponsored 11th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion - or Safety 2012 - was hosted from 1-4 October in Wellington, New Zealand.
About 1000 of the world's leading researchers, practitioners and advocates attended, covering a broad range of injury and violence topics. WHO Regional Director, Dr Shin Young-soo, and WHO Director, Dr Etienne Krug, provided plenary speeches in the opening session, and other WHO colleagues served as keynote and concurrent session speakers on violence prevention and road traffic injury prevention. WHO also hosted several business meetings on these issues as well as trauma care.
During the closing ceremony, the International Organizing Committee of this series of world conferences announced the hosts for Safety 2014: the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory University and Johns Hopkins University. Safety 2014 will take place 19-23 October 2014 in Atlanta, USA.
