Preparing the launch of the WHO Global Alliance for Care of the Injured
Pillar five of the Global Plan for the Decade calls for improvements in health and other systems to provide appropriate treatment and longer-term rehabilitation for victims of road traffic crashes. A new network is currently being created to give guidance on efforts in this area.
The First Meeting of the WHO Global Alliance for Care of the Injured was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 12 June. The meeting convened the nascent Alliance’s core participants as well as representatives of several other international organizations with a keen interest in promoting enhanced services to respond to the often urgent needs of the injured worldwide.
Participants finalized the framework for a formal work plan of the Alliance and formulated working groups on topics such as research, advocacy, education and rehabilitation, among others. They also agreed to publish several key advocacy documents in preparation of the launch of the Alliance in 2013.
