WHO hosts 2012 Annual Meeting of the Violence Prevention Alliance in Munich, Germany
On 16-17 April 2012 the WHO-led Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA) held its fifth dedicated strategy meeting in Munich, Germany. The meeting took place alongside the 17th German Congress on Crime Prevention/6th Annual International Forum on Crime Prevention, an event which drew over 4000 people.
Some 55 participants attended the VPA meeting, which convened some of the world’s leading violence prevention scientists and representatives from many of the major international initiatives that target interpersonal violence. The first day focused on the Plan of Action 2012-2020 for the Global Campaign for Violence Prevention and the second on VPA project groups on research, training, funding, parenting and criminal justice, among others.
Discussions were energetic, sustained and productive. A number of important agreements and decisions were reached, including on a strategy to take the Plan of Action forward and creation of a new communications project group.
