Michael Bloomberg visits RS10 Project in Viet Nam
On 23 March 2012, Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, visited Viet Nam to review projects supported by his private foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, including the Road Safety in 10 Countries (RS10) Project. Mayor Bloomberg visited a Ha Noi primary school, donating quality motorcycle helmets to 1200 students and 75 teachers.
Welcomed by the Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, Mr Nguyen Hoang Hiep; the Vice Minister of Transport, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Dong; and the WHO Representative to Viet Nam a.i, Dr Graham Harrison, the Mayor addressed the children, encouraging them to correctly wear their new helmets each and every time they travelled on a motorcycle. He also invited the students to be ambassadors and role models for road safety.
The Mayor also paid a visit to Vietnamese Prime Minister, Mr Nguyen Tan Dung, discussing amongst other issues, legislation for the prevention of drinking and driving.
