Meeting of national programme managers on violence and injury prevention and care held in Jakarta, Indonesia
On 25-27 June, WHO’s Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO) convened national programme managers on violence and injury prevention from 10 of the 11 SEARO countries; WHO country office focal points from 4 SEARO countries, and observers from the governments of Indonesia and Thailand.
Participants reviewed the status of national violence and injury prevention programmes; shared information about WHO violence and injury prevention priorities for 2014-2015; and updated the SEARO strategy on road safety.
Technical sessions included a presentation on WHO HQ progress and planning on violence and injury prevention, which highlighted the Global status report on violence prevention (2014); the next Global status report on road safety (date TBC); the upcoming world report on drowning prevention (2014); and development of the WHO Disability Action Plan 2014-2020.
Other technical sessions involved country presentations; ministry of health roles and institutional responsibilities in violence prevention; and a review of progress and plans in implementing the 2010 SEARO resolution on violence and injury prevention.
A particularly valuable session explored innovative and sustainable sources of financing for violence and injury prevention activities, using the model of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.
