Ministry of Health Focal Persons for Injury Prevention in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region convene in Amman, Jordan

On 23-25 June, 20 focal persons from 17 countries of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region participated in the Regional Meeting for Ministry of Health Focal Persons for Injury Prevention, organized by WHO EMRO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Jordan. In addition to the EMRO VIP team, the meeting was also attended by Dr Haifa Madi, EMRO Director of Health Protection and Promotion; Dr Etienne Krug, WHO Director for Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability; and Dr Junaid Razzak, Director of the Aga Khan University WHO Collaborating Center for Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care, as well as violence and injury prevention focal points in WHO country offices in most participating countries.

The meeting aimed to review the current injury prevention situation and plans, with a special focus on road traffic injuries, violence and child injuries; ensure harmonization of global, regional and national efforts; examine related regional and global updates and see how they can be translated into action at country level; and agree the way forward in a structured manner. A side meeting was held for 11 National Data Coordinators of the Global status report on road safety 2015. In addition bilateral meetings were held with country teams to discuss their violence and injury prevention activities through 2014.
