WHO hosted the second meeting on UN collaboration for the prevention of interpersonal violence
27-28 January 2004 - The consultation was attended by representatives from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) , the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the University for Peace, and the World Bank . Attendees focused on opportunities for interagency advocacy and identifying future directions for the group. The UN agencies agreed to collaborate on contributions to the 2005 African Year of Violence Prevention, to contributing actively to the UN Study on Violence Against Children, and to developing a web platform to facilitate information exchange about interpersonal violence prevention by UN agencies.
This meeting comes after the publication of the group’s Guide to UN resources and activities for the prevention of interpersonal violence, researched and compiled following its initial meeting in November 2001.
