This publication reflects progress on WHO programmes which support Member States in their efforts to address violence and injuries and improve the lives of people with disabilities.
Injuries, violence and disabilities: biennial report 2006-2007 (2008)
The biennial report describes highlights of activities conducted by WHO regional and country offices and headquarters in this area of work during the past two years. As governmental agencies and civil society organizations become increasingly aware of the strain that violence and injuries place on their communities, they are responding by strengthening data collection systems, improving services for victims and survivors and increasing prevention efforts. They are also identifying ways to ensure that people with disabilities are able to participate fully in their societies.
Injuries, violence and disabilities: biennial report 2004-2005 (2006)
The report describes the most salient activities conducted during the biennium by WHO headquarters and regional and country offices and partners in this area of work. The report shows considerable progress in all regions of the world in raising awareness about injuries and violence and implementing activities. Governmental and nongovernmental agencies are strengthening data collection systems, improving services for victims and survivors and increasing prevention efforts. The many activities described in the report reflect the collaborative nature of WHO's efforts in this field.
The second in this series of VIP annual reports highlights VIP's work in 2003, including immediate follow-up to the launch of the World report on violence and health and preparations for World Health Day 2004 on "Road Safety" and the WHO/World Bank World report on road traffic injury prevention to be launched on the day. It also features progress made on developing TEACH-VIP, a curriculum for teaching injury and violence prevention in schools of public health, and other work in the area of policies and services for victims and survivors.
