Violence and Injury Prevention

Belgium

  • On 3 October 2002, the global launch of the World report on violence and health took place in Brussels in the presence of His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium at the Egmont Palace.
  • In January 2003, the King dedicated his new year's speech to the issue of violence and injury prevention.
  • In December 2003 the Ministry of Health published a Belgian national report on violence and health. The report reviews Belgian data and knowledge about youth violence, child abuse and neglect, intimate partner violence, elder abuse, sexual violence, and suicide. The final chapter is devoted to the public health structure for the prevention of violence currently in place in Belgium. This report will serve as a foundation to develop a national multisectoral Plan for Action for Violence Prevention.
