The WHO Global Database on Anaemia belonging to the Evidence and Programme Guidance Unit in the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development, was developed and managed by Ines Egli and Trudy Wijnhoven under the coordination of Bruno de Benoist. Erin McLean, Ann-Beth Moller and Maria Andersson provided technical support, Grace Rob assisted in data management and Ron Valerio participated in database design. The database also benefitted from the contributions of Francesco Branca, Tommaso Cavalli Sforza, Wilma Freire, Rukhsana Haider, Aileen Robertson and Aristide Sagbohan.
WHO wishes to thank the numerous individuals, institutions, governments, nongovernmental and international organizations for providing data. Without continual international collaboration in keeping the database up-to-date, this compilation on the global situation and trends in anaemia prevalence would not be possible. Special thanks are due to ministries of health of WHO Member States, and to the WHO regional and country offices.
WHO wishes also to thank the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, United States of America for their technical and financial support
