Middle East crisis: environmental health, especially drinking water and sanitation require serious attention
As a result of the current crisis in Lebanon several hundred thousand civilians have been displaced and are lacking basic services such as healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation. Water and sanitation infrastructure have been seriously affected or destroyed during the conflict. WHO has mobilized resources to respond to emergency and long-term needs from the damaged infrastructure as well as to support basic needs of the displaced population.
On the normative side, WHO has been developing systematically extensive technical information that would be helpful to local and international emergency people to deal with this crisis. WHO technical information on water and sanitation relevant to emergencies and disasters can be viewed and downloaded following the links in this page.
For an update of the overall WHO work in responding to this major emergency please see WHO's emergency web site.
