Operation and maintenance
WHO works in close collaboration with the Institute of Public Health of Japan to strengthen the Operation and Maintenance Network (OMN) of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. During the earlier years of existence of the OMN (initially Operation and Maintenance Working Group), WHO with the support of the OMN membership, prepared some key best practice materials on this important issue, which are available online:
- Operation and maintenance of rural water supply and sanitation systems: A training package for managers and planners
- Tools for assessing the operation and maintenance status of water supply and sanitation in developing countries
- Upgrading water treatment plants
- Leakage management and control: A best practice training manual
- Linking technology choice with operation and maintenance in the context of community water supply and sanitation: A reference document for planners and project staff
