To improve access to safe water and sanitation, it is necessary to understand what actions countries and external support agencies are undertaking in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector.

WHO and UN-Water have two main tools for monitoring investments and the enabling environment for the WASH sector:

  • The UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS), which provides policy- and decision-makers with a comprehensive global analysis of investments and the enabling environment for WASH; and
  • The TrackFin Initiative, which is a methodology to track financing to drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene at the national level.
