The 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly takes place from 19-23 September 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. Heads of states and governments from 193 Member States convene to address large movements of refugees and migrants, ways to tackle antimicrobial resistance and progress on the Sustainable Development Goals agreed a year ago.

A high-level meeting will agree ways to tackle antimicrobial resistance. Other sessions will focus on responding to health crises, the health workforce, noncommunicable diseases, nutrition, women's and children's health.

23 September 2016 -- The President of Sri Lanka, the Ministers of Health of Barbados and the Russian Federation and representatives from Italy, Germany, Japan, and USA, joined the WHO Director-General during a meeting of the UN Inter-agency Task Force on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) to showcase how their national NCD efforts had benefitted from the Task Force and to pledge financial and political support to tackle NCDs.
