WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES)

Establishing GLP systems for vector control product testing

Good laboratory practice and good experimental practice (hereafter referred to as GLP) is the “gold standard” for laboratory and field testing of pesticide products required to generate high-quality, globally recognized data.

A global infrastructure will be established of public health pesticide testing institutions that comply with GLP international standards. This infrastructure will capitalize on WHO’s existing Collaborating Centres and partner institutions in pesticide evaluation studies.

Beginning in 2016, WHO and partners have initiated collaboration with research institutions in Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Western Pacific regions to develop GLP-compliant test facilities for various pesticide products in different categories such as long-lasting insecticidal nets, products for indoor residual spraying and space spraying, and mosquito larvicides.
