Women and Children desperately need to experience human rights in DRC!!
For the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the 2012 report of the COUNTDOWN TO 2015, gives child and maternal mortality figures as follows:
- Child mortality is given as having moved from 181/1,000 live birth in 1990 to 170 in 2010.By the MDG target date of 2015, child mortality should be 60/1,000.
- Maternal mortality is given as having moved from 930/100,000 in 1990 to 540 in 2010. By the MDG target date of 2015, maternal mortality should be 230/100,000.
As if being where they are isn't bad enough, a few days back there was yet another invasion by rebels in the Eastern part of DRC. What was even worse were reports that the "rebels" weren't even made up of the people of the Congo rebelling but from invaders from other nations.
The world has been standing by and watching devastation taking place in DRC for decades. What hope is there that the women and children of DRC will ever experience living within the parameters of human right let alone the right to health? This is a burning question that the world cannot keep pushing aside while we talk of the right to life, the right to human rights and even the right to health! Need more be said???
