A Fine Balance: Contraceptive Choice in the 21st Century
4-7 September | Bellagio, Italy - The USAID-funded RESPOND Project, a global project dedicated to increasing access to and the quality of FP around the world, convened a consultation of experts to explore the intersection of human rights and contraceptive choice and equity. The initiative received support from the Rockefeller Foundation to hold the event at their conference center in Bellagio, Italy.
This event was part of a long-term effort to realize informed choice in practice by increasing equitable access to the widest possible range of family planning method options and preventing both coercion and barriers to access. The meeting examined issues influencing choice through the lens of a particular method, female sterilization, which is at once the most widely used method worldwide and the most controversial, and the availability of which varies among and within countries.
Carmen Barroso represented the iERG at the meeting. She noted that the Gates Foundation and the USAID among other participants expressed interest to link to the iERG as much as possible.
