Second Stakeholders Meeting: implementing the post-commission workplan

At the occasion of “Delivering Results for Women and Children” Forum, WHO and Canada co-hosted the second International Stakeholders Meeting on Implementing the Recommendations of the Commission on Information and Accountability (COIA) and the first Expert Review Group (ERG) meeting to discuss taking forward the COIA's recommendations.

About 80 experts from the 75 countries - representatives of governments, international organizations, bilateral donors and foundations, civil society organizations, academic and research institutions and other relevant organizations - reviewed progress and plans related to the implementation of the Global Strategy and the COIA's ten recommendations and discussed ways in which partners can work together at the country and global level. In particular, the meeting aimed to operationalize the common Strategic Workplan, which was discussed in July 2011 and finalized in September 2011, by translating its key objectives into specific actions.

The meeting involved sessions focusing on specific country and global actions to improve monitoring of results and resources for women's and children's health in the 75 countries of the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health. Discussions in the parallel sessions were informed by background papers that provided a situational assessment, in terms of current initiatives and coordination mechanisms, and outlined main activities required in order to meet specific targets and objectives related to the areas being discussed.
