Sri Lanka multi-country workshop: enhancing health of women and children in Asia
Colombo | Date to be confirmed - The WHO South-East Asia Regional Office and WHO Sri Lanka Country Office with support of the Government of Sri Lanka will bring together key stakeholders from ministries of health and the partner community to discuss and develop country roadmaps to further enhance results and accountability for women's and children's health in six countries of the region: Bangladesh, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Nepal.
Each country delegation (including government and country partners) will work in respective country group to assess the current situation in their respective country with regard to the topic of focus, discuss the main gaps and weaknesses and identify priority actions to address the gaps. The focus of the group work will use the Self-Assessment Tool for planning and implementing the Country Accountability Framework that provides a range of possible scenarios allowing for objective and quantitative rating.
Specific objectives include:
- orient key stakeholders about the context and implications of the recommendations of the Commission on Information and Accountability for Women's and Children's Health;
- assess the current situation in terms of progress and plans, opportunities and challenges for implementing the recommendations, and identity priority actions;
- building on existing plans and frameworks, develop a country roadmap for enhancing accountability with costed activities for the next four years outlining how the gaps and priorities will be addressed and implemented;
- establish a shared understanding of the work required and the roles and responsibilities of each partner to implement the roadmap.
Expected outputs:
- increased awareness and understanding by country and regional stakeholders of the Commission recommendations and opportunities/challenges for country implementation;
- an assessment report and four-year draft accountability roadmap for each country, identifying the priority actions;
- understanding of the next steps required to finalize the country accountability roadmap (during follow up national stakeholder workshop) including validation of priority actions, budget, and identification of roles and responsibilities of key partners.
