Alliance Secretariat
The Secretariat of the Global Health Workforce Alliance is located at WHO headquarters in Geneva. Secretariat staff members are either recruited through WHO procedures or seconded by The Alliance partners.
The Secretariat's task is to implement the work plan of the Alliance, as determined by the Board. From its inception, until early 2008, Francis Omaswa was the Executive Director of The Alliance and head of the WHO/Geneva-based Secretariat. He was succeeded in 2008 by Former WHO Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Mubashar Sheikh, from Pakistan. In 2013, Dr Marie-Paule Kieny, Assistant Director-General Health Systems and Innovation of the World Health Organization, took over the position of Executive Director a.i.
