Special Recognition Awards (for health workers)

The Awarding Committee - consisting of prominent experts in the field of human resources for health - shortlisted these 12 health workers for the Special Recognition Awards.

Each health worker has served in a rural or hardship area for at least five years, and has demonstrated extensive involvement in their communities. Many had demonstrated innovative methods to deliver health care.

All shortlisted health workers were invited to participate in the Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health in Bangkok, Thailand.

Daw Nan Than Than Oo, a midwife from Myanmar, and Dr Karamoko Nimaga, from Mali, were named the overall winners at the Forum's closing ceremony.

Message from the Executive Director

"It was important to acknowledge the hard work and enormous achievements of those working on the ground," said Dr Mubashar Sheikh, Executive Director of the Alliance. "Health workers are often the backbones of rural communities and should be recognized as such; they remain committed to delivering healthcare despite the difficult conditions."
