Community health workers for ART in sub-Saharan Africa: learning from experience – capitalizing on new opportunities

This article focus on task shifting for ART to community health workers (CHWs), investigating how far they have taken onboard the lessons learnt from past experiences with CHW programmes for primary health care and how far they are seizing the new HIV/AIDS-specific opportunities.
This paper established the list of 10 criteria for successful CHW programmes for ART, gave examples of six ART related programmes in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Uganda and appraised these six programmes according to established criteria for successful CHW programmes. [Adapted from abstract]
