HEALTH 2020 Leadership for health and well-being in 21st century Europe
HEALTH AND WELL-BEING – A COMMON PURPOSE, A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
The European Region of the World Health Organization includes 900 million people living in 53 Member States. They have agreed to cooperate with renewed vigour to improve health, equity and wellbeing by adopting the European Health 2020 policy framework.
The values of Health 2020 are full recognition and application of the human right to health, solidarity, fairness and sustainability. These values incorporate a number of other principles that are deeply valued within the European Region, namely universality, equity, the right to participate in decision-making, dignity, autonomy, non-discrimination, gender equity, transparency and accountability. All these values underpin Health 2020.
Invitation to Nongovernmental Organizations to participate in the written consultation on the new European policy for health, Health 2020. Three documents are now available for a written consultation:
- the short Health 2020 policy document, which contains the key evidence, arguments and areas for policy action in the Health 2020 Policy Framework addressing the public health challenges and opportunities for promoting health and well-being in the European Region.
- the longer Health 2020 policy framework, which provides the contextual analysis and the main strategies and interventions that work to implement the Health 2020 policy; and
- the European Action Plan for Strengthening Public Health Capacities and Services, which is also a central arm for implementation of Health 2020.
