A core indicator of health workforce statistics is health worker density per 10,000 population. Another core dimension for improving the global evidence base on HRH is the setting of standards for disaggregation of health workforce statistics, according to demographic group, type of work, gender, geographical distribution, place of work and occupation. Complementary process indicators, such as the existence of an HRH plan, may be useful too.
