The paper discusses the financial incentives programmes to attract and retain health workers in underserved areas and seven management functions essential for long-term success of the financial incentive programmes, namely 1.Sources of finance to pay for the implementation of programme 2. Promotion of the programme using different communication channels to attract candidates for the participation in the programme.3. Selection of the participants out of the pool of candidates 4. Placement of participants in underserved areas 5. Continuous contact and support during the stages of enrollment 6. Enforcement and monitoring of the contract fulfillment, and 7. Evaluation of the programme performance.
