Impact of Ministry of Health Interventions on Private Medicine Retailer Knowledge and Practices on Anti-Malarial Treatment in Kenya
Case study
A relatively large-scale MoH malaria control program targeting private medicine retailers (PMRs) in Kenya led to significant improvements in PMR knowledge and practices.
As the evidence around approaches using subsidized OTC AM medicines is sought, this study clearly showed that district health initiatives based on short PMR trainings and traditional public information campaigns with simple IEC materials improve provider performance and have the potential to improve child survival in malaria-endemic settings.
