Interview with Dr Mubashar Sheikh, Executive Director of the Alliance, conducted during the High-Level Meeting on AIDS (HLM), June 2011, New York, USA. Dr Sheikh explains how the shortage of health workers in many countries directly impacts the effective and equitable delivery of quality HIV and AIDS related services. The lack of skilled, motivated and supported health workers constitute a major obstacle to achieving the MDG6.

Dr Sheikh outlines the key priority action points to address the health workforce crisis, including the main strategies as per the Kampala Declaration and Agenda for Global Action. He also commended the Political Declaration adopted on 10 June at the HLM as a powerful instrument to increase commitment and investment in health workforce issues.
