The Public Health Initiative (PHI) was established to increase capacity in the South-East Asia region to anticipate and respond to today's and tomorrow's health challenges. PHI provides tools for countries to sensitize communities and political leaders about healthy policies and practices, and creates opportunities for training, research and policy development across or within countries.

The PHI has catalyzed and supported a wide review of public health education standards and accreditation procedures in the Region through the South-East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network (SEAPHEIN), and is triggering a movement for public health in several countries.
