This meeting report discusses accreditation and recognition of health workers in the context of the partnership between WHO and the World Federation of Medical Education.
Building on country and regional experiences, the meeting discussed the role of accreditation in improving quality of medical education and assessment of education qualifications. Guiding principles for global standards for accreditation were discussed; the foundations, decision making processes, and organizational structure of an accreditation system were analysed. Future directions of the WHO/ WFME partnership were identified.
