15th African Union Summit, 19-27 July, Kampala, Uganda
The African Union will hold its 15th Ordinary Session in Kampala, Uganda, on the theme of "Maternal, Infant And Child Health And Development In Africa". Sessions will include:
- 19 – 20 July: 20th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives
- 22 - 23 July: 17th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council
- 25 - 27 July: 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union
The 2010 African Union (AU) Summit will cover a range of health and development issues, with a strong focus on women and child health and on health systems. With only five years to the MDG deadline, the Summit will serve as a platform to advocate for an integrated and multi-sectoral approach to all MDGs, particularly MDGs 1(c), 4, 5 and 6.
Alliance member Africa Public Health Alliance (APHA) and the 15%+ Campaign are calling upon civil society organizations to co-sign a letter (available below) appealing to all governments to uphold, improve and implement African and global health commitments. This call supports the ongoing efforts of APHA and 15%+, a campaign aimed at realising the 2001 Abuja pledge by African Heads of State to allocate at least 15% of national domestic budgets to health.
To support this initiative, APHA developed the 2010 Africa Health Financing Scorecard (available below) highlighting percentage allocation of budgets, and per capita investments on health against main indicators for MDG 4, 5 and 6.
If you would like to sign on please send the name of your organisation, and country by 13th July to ausummit2010@africa15percent-plus.net
