Global Consultation on Community Health Workers, 29-30 April, Montreux, Switzerland

The Global Health Workforce Alliance (the Alliance) organized a Global Consultation on Community Health Workers (CHW) from 29-30 April in Montreux, Switzerland.

The Consultation focused on the findings of the recently conducted systematic review of CHW programmes.

The objectives of the Consultation were:

  • To identify CHW best practices and lessons learnt on the basis of the CHW report, other relevant documents and experiences. In particular to address issues of selection, training, certification mechanisms, regulation, career advancement, supervision and management of the various CHWs.
  • To identify the challenges for implementation and how to bridge the gap between knowledge and programmatic action with particular emphasis on integrating CHWs within the national HRH strategic plans.
  • To identify strategies for dissemination of recommendations and to lay the basis for an information-sharing network of stakeholders who are implementing CHW programmes or are planning to do so.

Experts, policy makers and people engaged with CHWs programs worldwide took part in the Consultation.
