Ministerial Conference on Value for Money, Sustainability and Accountability in the Health Sector
4 - 5 July 2012
From 4-5 July, the Harmonization for Health in Africa (HHA) in collaboration with the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) are organizing a Conference of African Ministers of Finance and Ministers of Health on the theme of achieving greater value for money in Health. The Alliance is an associate member of the HHA and is actively engaged in influencing the conference agenda and providing input for the discussion. Given that Human Resources for Health (HRH) constitutes the single largest component of the health budget, the Alliance has prepared a topic brief on HRH Financing to feed into conference deliberations and the governance framework. The Chair of the Alliance Board, Dr Masato Mugitani, will make a presentation on HRH financing.
The main objectives of the conference is to better understand the causes and solutions of ineffective health financing as well as the better use of resources in order to create capacity to source further resources. The conference intends to use the platform to tap into new sources of funding such as private companies and emerging donors. It will also speak about the “value for money” agenda more broadly.
