Leaders in Healthcare Conference, Dubai, UAE (26 January 2009)
As part of the Arab Health Congress 2009, the "Leaders in Healthcare" Conference was held on 26 January, in Dubai. The theme of the 2009 Congress, which runs from 26 - 29 January is "The Future of Healthcare". International leaders in healthcare will debate on the problems of current healthcare around the world; talk of their vision in healthcare as well as the best ways to get there in 20 years.
"We cannot claim we are achieving leadership in medical advances if more than nine million children in 2007 died before reaching the age of five " said HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, at the opening. She warned that the global financial crisis would have profound implications for health and social welfare programmes and the poor and impoverished could be the first to suffer.
GHWA Executive Director, Dr. Shiekh made an intervention at the session "Future Healthcare Human Resources". He talked about the 2009 challenges and opportunities of the global health workers crisis, including transforming the 2008 pledges into concrete action in the context of the global financial crisis.
Arab Health, which is the world's largest medical congress and 2nd largest medical exhibition is being attended by over 5,000 delegates from around the globe. It is a unique forum for medical professionals to engage with leading researchers, scholars and renowned speakers as well as obtain information on the latest practices and technologies The event includes conferences such as the Healthcare Management Forum, ME Urology Update and ME International Cardiovascular Conference.
