Member profile
The BC Academic Health Council works as a link between health care and education in British Columbia, Canada. This not-for-profit organization facilitates collaboration, communication and knowledge brokering between the two sectors, and it supports initiatives that address provincial system goals and objectives. Additional efforts enhance the educational preparation of healthcare providers in rural and aboriginal communities. Key health care strategies are stressed in its commitment to advance the field. The BCAHC vision is to have a strong collaboration by member organizations from the health care and post-secondary education sectors that will assure an adequate supply of appropriately educated health professionals, which is critical to meeting current and future population and patient health needs.
Main activities
BCAHC's goal is to connect people and organizations to strengthen academic health in British Columbia, with particular focus on health profession education. Activities include:
- Developing health action plans and deliverables
- Serving as forum for the implementation of innovations
- Facilitating the sharing of best practices and resources
- Informing policy makers at all levels.

BCAHC is a senior level partnership and collaboration forum involved in education of the full range of health care providers. To meet its mandate, BCAHC has a shared mission among health research, health education and health care practice organizations. They strengthen regional capacity and engage in activities that involve all professions along the entire continuum of health care.
