HEALTHYSALONE, UK
Member profile
HealthySalone is a non-profit organization located in London that is run entirely by volunteers. It was created with the belief that health is a basic human right. It is committed to sharing lessons from its work. By sharing information, knowledge, experiences and constraints to progress, it can join forces with other organizations to tackle problems. HealthySalone’s mission is to rehabilitate health-related infrastructure and to procure equipment and supplies for Sierra Leone’s government run healthcare facilities.
Main activities
HealthySalone envisions a Sierra Leone with one of the most efficient healthcare systems in the world. It seeks to modernize healthcare in Sierra Leone, and it will support research into new and improved healthcare solutions for the country. HealthySalone only takes on projects where it knows the people of Sierra Leone can take sustainable ownership. HealthySalone uses a three pillar approach to improve healthcare in Sierra Leone: infrastructure building, improved workforce training and improved accountability
Links to the health workforce crisis
HealthySalone does not have a specific focus area for public health infrastructure. Two objectives, however, do address specific infrastructure areas: rebuilding medical diagnostic and teaching laboratories and increasing the numbers of trained personnel in the health system. In addition to a basic knowledge of public health, all public health workers should have specific competencies in their areas of specialty, interest and responsibility. HealthySalone’s HRH focus is on aiding the return and re-integration of skilled and qualified Sierra Leonean healthcare workers from abroad. It also partners with other organizations working in Sierra Leone to advocate for improved pay and incentives for healthcare workers in the country. HealthySalone is developing an award system which will ensure that excellent healthcare workers will be celebrated and rewarded annually.
