Health Policy and Professional Practice (HPPP) is in the School of Public Policy and Professional Practice at Keele University in the United Kingdom. It has developed its academic strengths within the philosophy of interdisciplinary working. The improvement of health through better planning and management is its core mission. This involves addressing not only health policy and organisations, but also the social, behavioral and demographic dimensions of health (and health inequalities). HPPP’s work covers post-graduate and post-experience teaching and personal development; research; consultancy and advisory work; and applied fieldwork.
Main activities
HPPP’s focuses are in health policy (“home” and overseas); health planning, e.g. service evaluation; and development and promotion of modern management techniques in health. The key areas are: evaluation of health policy and reform (UK, Europe and overseas); leadership development (especially clinical); governance and risk; organisational collaboration and “social capital”; international health (including reproductive) and health services research.

Health Policy and Professional Practice offers full residential Master's programmes and postgraduate certificates in HRH and health management. It also offers specialized topics in health management running throughout the academic year and a regular Summer School on a selected topical theme oriented to international health professionals. In addition, there are tailored management courses for client groups with special needs. HPPP builds local capacity using skills transfer programmes and collaborative technical assignments on workforce planning; strategic HR development; workforce modeling; work study methods; leadership in health; designing and redeveloping workforce training & education; and training institutional audits. Associate faculty work on international employee relations; international labour law and regulation. There are, also, many peer-reviewed articles published on HRH.
