Faculty of Public Health at Naresuan University
Member profile
The Faculty of Public Health at Naresuan University, a state-owned comprehensive university in the lower-northern part of Thailand, was established in 2003. Our vision is to become the leading academic institution in training health leaders to become change agents for supporting health promotion. In addition, our aim is to strengthen leadership and management capacity for public health professionals to support primary health care through innovative educational models by using public health and health services management approaches.
Our research areas are focused on primary health care and health services management. The Faculty has been recognized as the Centre of Expertise on Leadership in Health Management (CELHM) by the Network of WHO Collaborating Centres and Centres of Expertise in Thailand (NEW-CCET). Additionally, the World Health Organization has supported the Faculty to serve as a Reference Library of WHO Publications, which provides library as well as information search services in various forms in this region.
Main activities
The Faculty offers academic programmes at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree levels in four areas: Public Health and Health Services Management, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety, Community Health, and Applied Thai Traditional Medicine. Moreover, we also conduct research activities that are relevant to public health and provide technical services to the general public, students, academicians, local administration officials, etc.
Links to the health workforce crisis
Thailand encounters a health workforce crisis in terms of quantity, imbalance of workforce distribution and the availability of qualified personnel. The Faculty attempts to deal with this situation by producing public health graduates to work in the health services system.
Moreover, public health workers will serve the people who live in rural areas; and they will also help increase the ratio of health personnel to population. For the graduates from our master’s and doctoral degree program, they will be researchers and managers who create knowledge and manage the health care systems in their respective areas. Our professional development includes academic services to improve health workforce to have the required qualifications in order to work with the other health professionals. We are also developing the curriculums and teaching processes to serve the real situation by implementing the concept of competency-based training, experience-based training, and research-based learning.
