New York University College of Nursing Global (NYUCN Global) is a leader in nursing research and education. NYUCN Global is committed to advancing health solutions in low and middle income countries as well as underserved areas in the United States, bringing together multiple NYU centers and scientists as an integral part of the university’s enterprise model.

NYUCN Global delivers high quality research, enhances clinical and preventive care, and fosters active learning and teaching through international partnerships that promote collaboration among faculty, students, researchers, patients and populations from Africa, Asia, Australia, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the US. The World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Gerontologic Nursing (WHO CC) is also based at NYUCN Global. The WHO CC focuses on education and research in the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) region.

Our mission is to conduct research and implement programs that address health disparities, informs clinical practice, and contributes to the advancement of science to improve the health and well being of individuals, families and communities in America and throughout the world. We promote translational science through generating, integrating, disseminating, and using knowledge to inform evidence based policy and practice.

Main activities

Conducting innovative research designed to develop and scale up evidence-based, sustainable solutions that address critical health challenges in a culturally competent manner is the core capability of NYUCN Global. NYUCN Global includes five main research areas.

NYUCN Global’s cross cutting initiatives that address the health workforce crisis include:

  • Technology and mhealth: NYUCN Global’s biomedical and behavioral research employs innovative technologies including audio computerized assisted self interview, computerized counseling tools, mobile device-delivered and web-based health information management systems that are cost-effective, strengthen health systems and improve the efficiency of the health workforce.
  • Education & Training: Using interdisciplinary approaches, NYUCN Global advances knowledge, scholarship, and curriculum development in low- and middle-income countries. NYUCN Global provides educational exchanges and programs for faculty, researchers, and students as well as a Global Scholars Program for leaders from Ministries of Health and public health leaders from developing regions.
  • Policy and Advocacy: NYUCN Global collaborates effectively with governments, multi-lateral organizations, professional associations, and civil society to implement evidence-based programs, translate sustainable solutions into practice and enhance health system performance through publications, public advocacy, and targeted outreach to policy makers.
